This is my first political cartoon strip for democratic candidate Vincent Morgan representing the 5th district of New York City. I was asked to create the strip to virally support his campaign. The concept was to focus on Congressman Charlie Rangel, who currently holds the seat, as the main character. I wanted it to be visually funny, but speak directly to the issues. I felt like it was a call of duty to help this candidate properly serve the people of Harlem.
This is a graphic tee I did for an Adidas Originals Jamaica Country pack. You can see the whole collection on my site, TesTstudios.com / graphics. It was spotted in the Fall 2010 issue of Hoop.
This is a logo I did for this great PDX event that goes down every 2nd Friday of the month. The crew wanted something that spoke into the high energy of using live beat machines with their wicked dj mixing. I remember heads doing this at basement parties and block parties in the 80′s. So, my inspiration was the Electric Company. I use to like that show better than Sesame Street. They wanted an old school drawing style to keep it organic. What I really enjoy is when they pass the logo off to other artist to design that months flyer. It’s kinda nice to see other peoples interpretation of it. Check for pix and more info at Compound Gallery and their FB page.
Not only was I the lead designer on this project, but I also over saw the production. I was able to supply the client with a finer product than they expected. I used a 100% ring spun cotton tee with a detailed design. The printer was able keep the richness of the colors, but give the piece a soft hand. We used a tasteful metallic silver print to high light the graphic. If I have to use it, I like metallic inks more than metallic foil. You can control the “shine” better with the inks. I really enjoy designing in the factory and seeing the evolution. This time I got to work with the finest printer in the industry. My good friend Omid produced the new Aloe Blacc video for the HBO series “How To Make It In America”. The name of the film company is What Matters Most. I love experiencing new projects from this team. One time to the crew!
Good friends of mine recently got their new application approved by Apple called MySneakers. This is a must for all sneaker heads. Access to an updated database from around the globe that’s all about your favorite sneaker. There is a Top 10 sneaker communal list, a sneaker detail feature, a recommended list and a rating feature. My favorite is the nearby feature. A GPS locator that list all the stores in that area when you’re searching for that one style. You can get it at the ITunes App Store on April 13th. One time to NILO Media!
I have always been a fan of a quit killa footwear brand. Those well constructed kix that nobody really rocks, but people always seem to ask “where you get those?” brands. A few of my favorites would be New Balance, Saucany, Asics, Brooks [cherished them], Clarks, Vasque, Salomon and Asolo. Taste have changed, but I still like them and always looking out for others. On my first visit to SF a few years ago, I was re-introduced to Gravis. I caught a pair called the Tarmac Royale Mid, dope shoe. Gravis just came out with the Monocle, a combo of a boat shoe and track shoe. I have seen a few boat shoe hybrids, but this one was well thought out. Premium materials and extremely comfortable. Nice brand to keep your third eye on.
